Laura's Story
Laura went from feeling lost and low in confidence to rediscovering her strength, purpose, and joy in movement. Her mantra – I’m a work in progress; as long as I’m moving in the right direction, that’s all that matters.
A Sliding Doors Moment
When Laura began her journey, life felt incredibly heavy. It was 2020, during lockdown, and she had just suffered a huge personal loss. Grief hit hard—without routine, social connection, or support from friends, she felt completely lost. Her confidence and self-esteem were at their lowest, and she was struggling to take care of herself.
“I knew something had to change,” she recalls. “If I wanted to move forward with my life, I couldn’t stay where I was.”
Everything shifted when Laura heard that Jamie was opening Thrive. “The second I found out, I just knew I had to join,” she says. It felt like a sign—a chance to take control again.
At that point, Laura was determined to make a change. “I knew that if I changed nothing, everything would stay the same,” she explains. Her mindset became focused on progress over perfection. “I remind myself that I’m a work in progress, and as long as I’m moving in the right direction, that’s all that matters.”
Her experiences also gave her a new appreciation for health. “It’s precious,” she says. “That’s what I think about when the 6am alarm goes off and I want to roll over and go back to sleep.”
Stepping Outside the Comfort Zone
A huge milestone for Laura was completing the Hyrox Singles. It wasn’t just about physical endurance—it was about courage. “Standing there in front of spectators was so far out of my comfort zone,” she admits. “But I had faith in the work I’d done. I’d given it 100 percent in training, and I didn’t want to let fear stop me.”
Crossing that finish line filled her with pride. “It’s a gruelling challenge, not for the faint-hearted,” she laughs. “But I did it.”
This year, Laura took on the Hyrox Doubles with a friend. Training together, pushing each other, and sharing the finish line made the experience even more special. “It strengthened our bond,” she says. “We had a shared goal and shared the glory—it was amazing.”
Strength Inside and Out
Beyond the events and milestones, Laura’s real transformation has been in her mindset. “I’m now in the best shape of my life—physically and mentally,” she says. Regular training gives her structure and balance, and she’s proud to set an example for her teenage daughters.
“I want to show them how important it is to invest in your long-term health,” she explains. “To see fitness not just as exercise, but as self-respect.”
“Simple, consistent steps make a bigger difference than you think,” she says. “You don’t have to change everything overnight—small changes really can transform your life.”
